If it's Friday at the Kimbilio Mapendo School, it means that the primary school students have EPS. EPS stands for "l'education physique et sportive" in French. To English speakers, it's the rough equivalent of physical education, phys ed, or gym class.
EPS is not just for fun - it has purpose. Each child is given the chance to show off their talents. Certainly, there are the elements of learning new sports and physical skills while exercising. But the course is also intended to create a "physical culture" of learning about oneself, others and the world.
These photos were taken during an EPS class earlier this month. Among them, you can see one student showing off his skills in balance and gracefulness. You can also see the collaboration of several other students, assisting him with setup.
