Celebrating the Children's Gifts

kimbilious

Each Wednesday, the Kimbilio Mapendo School holds an exhortation intended to motivate the children to use their gifts. We hope you'll love this video as much as we do. While French is the national language and is taught in schools, and Swahili is the lingua franca in east Katanga and eastern DR Congo, the children are singing this particular hymn in Lingala. Lingala is the prevalent language in the DR Congo capital of Kinshasa.

Have a good look at that beautiful drum in the video and in the photo below! It's being played by a boy, Didier, whose musical talents stand out among others. He plays it often at the exhortations, but other children do take turns at it. We don't know much about the history or nature of this drum, other than it was gifted to Kimbilio by one of their very active volunteers.
